FRANK ZAPPA & THE MOTHERS
Cameron Stadium
Duke University
Durham, NC
1973 02 24

~~ combination of two commercial LP boots ~~

Here we have another show that is found in very good quality on commercial vinyl boots but has yet to circulate in good quality from a tape source. This seed is a combination of two bootleg LP releases. Despite the format, and regardless of some loudmouths standing near the taper, this is one of the best audience recordings from this era. It is the second performance by this lineup and the earliest available recording of this lineup.

Substantial upgrade (A-/B+ stereo) to currently circulating tape copies (B+/B mono)

Current FZ Shows entry:
1973 02 24 - Cameron Stadium, Duke University, Durham, NC
90 min, Aud, B+/B
RDNZL, Dog Breath, Uncle Meat, Fifty-Fifty, Inca Roads, improvisation (incl. Zomby Woof), Montana, Dupree's Paradise (incl. Blessed Relief), I'm The Slime, Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?, Cosmik Debris

This copy: 88.39, AUD, A-/B+ stereo

Thank you very much for putting this together and sharing with us. Smile

I still have my LP copy of Pygmy Pony I bought around 35 years ago. I never knew where and when this show was recorded as they are not stated on the cover. It does say Frank Zappa 1974, but it obviously 1973. I am happy to have the location and date now. Also, I never owned Dupree's Paradise, so I will be hearing the second part of the show for the first time!!! Smile

Thanks again for this treat.

Thanks JWB. I am really glad this combination of the two boots finally made it up here. Funny that although both boots appear to be from the same master tape, they both contain material the other doesn't.

Yojimbo had a cassette copy, but it wasn't clear that it was a significant upgrade and these vinyl boots are quite old anyway (my "Dupree's Paradise" has a date of 1979 on it). So, they were likely made back in the '70's before the master got too old.

This is a fun show with the earliest versions of RDNZL, 50-50 & Inca Roads known. It provides some insight into how these songs would develop and change over the coming two years. This is also my favorite DYEWTT? of all. A great version for sure!

Kind regards,
Overnitefreak
