well, listen 3 times to make my neighboors discover the first CD of this incredible Road Tapes... Very Happy

here are a few thoughts...
RDNZL : so different to the Helsinki version. Another putain de solo de guitar trop mortel tip top de la balle blues

Dupree's Paradise : all parts are superb, but I'm fond of the late-jazz with grand piano part... "soirée"... says Frank
and do you think that Frank is quoting Peter Sellers (as the U.S President in Kubrick's Doctor Strangelove) when he says the "little funny in the mind" line... ? (sounded really like a Peter Sellers imitation to me...) Question

All skate Dun-Dun-Dun (The Finnish Hit Single) : wow! love this one !
it starts with a fantastic intro- and I need the specialists here.
It seems that George Duke is quoting "Forbidden Planet" (which was one of my favorite 50's SF movie) Question

http://www.DVDBeaver.com/film2/DVDreviews26/forbidden_planet.htm

I don't have the soundtrack but I've rewatched the movie 2 weeks ago on blu-ray and it sounds like it's "Robby the Robot"'s theme...

love the end with another "blues" (in Major ?) number... with bombastic bass and keyboard and another hell of a guitar solo...

in fact, in turns out that everyone in this 2 CD set is at his top (George Duke, Jean-Luc Ponty, Ruth...etc...)
and the show is perfectly captured...

Inca Roads?

Doesn't seem to have been performed until September '73. Much like T'Mershi Duween. And yes, FZ just threw the "Swifty" theme onto "Dupree's Paradise" rather than go to the "Dupree's Theme" after his guitar solo on the Birmingham gig.

Who's the third voice in "Brown Shoes" (besides FZ and Duke)?

Where do you hear the third voice? I think it's all FZ and Duke.

Got me to listen closely, I'll check it out again later today. Frank and George do a great job with the vocals and perhaps the "third" voice is a more vocally versatile George than I could have imagined. I don't notice three voices at once, but it's early and my ears aren't fully awake.

(I hope the omission of the bar jazz version means that it's on that planned Roxy thing)

I believe GZ's hint indicated that Inca Roads would be on the Roxy CD, and perhaps also the Green Genes medley, although also some of the same material that is on this Helsinki release.

Yes the guitar solo in the Dun-Dun-Dun jam is awesome.

Yes, I noticed that, always two at once at most. It must be Duke - I think I just hadn't heard him singing in his normal, non-falsetto voice before.

On the subject of George's vocals, comparing this Village Of The Sun with Napoleon's version on R&E indicates how much latitude FZ gave them on this song.

Someone at Zappa.com forum has reported it's no. 96. Whereas IINK lists it as 95, which is pretty interesting. I guess Roman Garcia Albertos has deliberately chosen to ignore the travesty that is the audio rip of Baby Snakes movie. And I can understand perfectly.

I think it's because #95 was supposed to be "Roxy by Proxy", but since "Road Tapes 2" came out before, that became 95

cheers
