1971 Billy The Mountain - Alternate Edit 29.22 (billyschools-pbuzby)

unknown gen SBD -> Sony TC-WE475 -> REALTEC AC-97 -> Soundforge (speed correction) -> FLAC 8 -> FLAC

tape collected by: billyschools
transfer/edit: pbuzby
speed hints: flambay

The first two-thirds of this piece is from 1971 08 07 Los Angeles (the same performance as Just Another Band From L.A., with the same edits), but the Studebaker Hoch section and ending are from another show, probably 1971 10 11 NYC. The non-JABFLA segment has appeared on its own on some bootlegs, including Mystery Box and Apocrypha.

Thanks.

I don't think FZ assembled this. There's too much change in sound quality at the edit point.

I think the beginning comes from someone's JABFLA LP.

To play devils advocate, it may be that the difference in sound quality is intrinsic to the original show recordings (considering that Pauley Pavilion was a 4-track and Carnegie Hall may have been 2-track) and explains why FZ abandoned the idea of editing together the two shows.

OTOH, it may also be that someone dubbed in the first part from the LP.

Still a big fun listen for me despite the change in sound quality of the alternate section. Thanks much Pat! When JABFLA first came out on vinyl I played it to death and for anyone who would listen. Most of my pals wouldn't listen to my favorite - Uncle Meat, but I won them over with BTM & Magdalena. For many of my friends & acquaintances it was their introduction to FZ & The Mothers.

No, it's likely that the non-JABFLA segment of this track is from Oct 11 1971 at Carnegie Hall (a show that was also reportedly the source of the two improv cuts on the "JABFLA 2nd LP").

Thank you for your explanation pbuzby. They chant: "Fillmore , Fillmore " at 15:12 , so I thought it must be venue they played.
